On June 13th, KDIS organized an educational field trip to the Global Knowledge Exchange and Development Center (GKEDC), continuing a tradition that takes place at least once per semester to provide international students with deep insights into Korea's remarkable economic transformation and development journey. This immersive experience offered us a comprehensive understanding of how Korea to one of the world's leading economies.

The visit began with a comprehensive introduction to GKEDC's mission and history. We learned that the center was established as a premier research and academic facility designed to share Korea's unique development experience with the global community. As an emerging hub for knowledge exchange, GKEDC particularly focuses on supporting countries and international organizations through evidence-based learning and best practice sharing. The exhibitions are historical artifacts and documents, alongside innovative interactive learning programs that bring Korea's economic development story to life.

Our group enjoyed an exclusive private tour, each exploring different aspects of Korea's transformation. The Industrial Development Hall showcased Korea's industrial evolution, focusing on the development of heavy and chemical industries and electronics industries. The exhibits illustrated how Korea successfully transformed from a predominantly agrarian economy into a leading high-tech nation. The Prologue Hall presented an engaging video exhibition that chronicled Korea's inspiring journey to becoming the world's 10th largest economy, with multimedia presentations that effectively captured the scale and speed of this transformation.

The Future Innovation Hall offered a forward-looking perspective through a large-scale video presentation examining the challenges and opportunities Korea faces in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Perhaps the most moving section of our tour was the Human Hall, which presented the stories of ordinary citizens who became extraordinary contributors to Korea's economic growth. This exhibition reminded us that behind every national success story are countless individual acts of determination, innovation, and sacrifice.

Following a delicious lunch, we engaged in a hands-on learning exercise designed to apply the insights gained from our tour. We were divided into four collaborative groups, with each team selecting a country; the countries chosen were Botswana, Kenya, Ecuador, and Malawi. Each group conducted a comprehensive analysis of their chosen country's economic drivers, development challenges, and potential pathways for growth.

This field trip provided invaluable insights into the critical role of strategic planning and policy implementation in national development, how countries can leverage their unique strengths while learning from global best practices, and the importance of human capital development in driving economic transformation. We also gained a deeper understanding of the ongoing challenges facing developing nations in the modern global economy. The GKEDC experience successfully combined historical learning with practical application, offering international students like ourselves a deeper understanding of development economics through Korea's inspiring example.

We encourage all future policy makers and development practitioners who are current and prospective KDIS students to take this opportunity to attend future field trips to GKEDC at least once. As a participant I can attest that we left with both knowledge and inspiration to contribute meaningfully to global development efforts. This experience reinforced the value of international knowledge sharing and collaboration in addressing the world's most pressing development challenges, demonstrating how one nation's success story can serve as both inspiration and practical guidance for others on their own development journeys.
