The Talent Donation Program at KDI School continues to create meaningful connections between the university and the local community. By inviting high school students from Sejong to campus, the program provides opportunities for young learners to engage with international students and gain firsthand exposure to cultures from around the world. 

Among the participating groups this year was the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) Forum, which introduced students to the rich diversity of the Latin American and Caribbean region through interactive activities, cultural demonstrations, games, discussions, and personal exchanges.

For many of the visiting students, the event offered a unique opportunity to learn about a part of the world that may be less familiar to them. Rather than relying solely on presentations or textbooks, members of the LAC Forum designed an engaging and interactive experience that encouraged participation and curiosity. 

The LAC Forum is one of KDI School's regional forums, bringing together students from various countries across Latin America and the Caribbean while also welcoming those interested in learning more about the region. Through events, cultural exchanges, and educational activities, the forum seeks to promote understanding and appreciation of the many cultures, histories, and perspectives represented throughout the region.

Forum members highlighted an important message: Latin America and the Caribbean cannot be defined by a single culture, language, or tradition. The region is home to more than 30 countries and territories, each with its own unique identity. Students learned that while Spanish is widely spoken across much of Latin America, it is far from the only language used in the region. Portuguese is the official language of Brazil, the largest country in South America, while French is spoken in several Caribbean territories. In addition, numerous Indigenous languages continue to be spoken throughout the region, reflecting centuries of cultural heritage and diversity.

One of the most engaging aspects of the program was the opportunity for students to interact directly with forum members. Rather than simply listening to information, participants were encouraged to ask questions and learn through hands-on activities. Interactive games allowed students to test their knowledge and discover new facts about the countries, flags, geography, and cultural traditions of Latin America and the Caribbean. These activities transformed learning into a fun and memorable experience while encouraging active participation.

Food also played an important role in introducing students to the region's cultural richness. The LAC Forum showcased a variety of foods that are commonly enjoyed throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, allowing students to learn how cuisine reflects local history, geography, and cultural influences. Discussions about traditional dishes provided insight into the ingredients, flavors, and customs that make the region's culinary traditions unique. Through these conversations, students gained a deeper appreciation for how food can serve as a bridge between cultures.

Music and dance were another highlight of the event. Forum members introduced students to some of the vibrant dance traditions that have become cultural symbols of the region. By demonstrating typical dances and inviting students to participate, they created an energetic and welcoming atmosphere that encouraged cultural exchange. The activity allowed participants to experience culture not only through observation but also through movement and interaction. Laughter, enthusiasm, and curiosity filled the room as students stepped outside their comfort zones and embraced something new.

Beyond learning about languages, food, and dance, the event also provided an opportunity for meaningful people-to-people exchange. High school students were able to meet international students studying at KDI School and hear about their experiences living, studying, and representing their home countries abroad. These conversations offered valuable perspectives on global citizenship and cultural understanding, helping students recognize both the differences and similarities that connect people around the world.

Programs such as this demonstrate the important role universities can play in engaging with local communities. By opening its doors to students from Sejong, KDI School creates opportunities for young people to expand their horizons and develop a greater appreciation for cultural diversity. At the same time, international students are given a platform to share their heritage, experiences, and perspectives with the next generation.

The LAC Forum's participation in the Talent Donation Program exemplified the spirit of cultural exchange that defines the KDI School community. Forum members transformed a classroom into a gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean. More importantly, they showed that learning about the world can be both educational and enjoyable.

As globalization continues to bring societies closer together, initiatives like the Talent Donation Program remind us of the value of intercultural understanding.
