Choosing is hard when every option seems enticing. Similar is the dilemma students go through when registering for courses at KDIS. 

With various courses spanning a wide range of disciplines, each offering a unique learning experience, navigating the many options available can be challenging.

To help alleviate this dilemma, we've assembled a list of a few courses recommended by students and their reasons for going for these courses. These recommendations stem from insights gathered through an internal survey conducted among a part of the student body, aiming to provide a bit of convenience amidst the sea of choices.

1. United Nations and Sustainable Development / Professor: Joon Oh

The course provides students with in-depth knowledge about the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the role of the United Nations in preserving our future for generations to come. With Professor Oh Joon's Joon  Oh extensive experience, having formerly served as the South Korean Ambassador to the UN and as the President of ECOSOC, students see this course as a golden opportunity to learn from his expertise.

"Prof. Joon Oh's insights regarding his experience and the SDGs helped us understand the goals and targets. He is very approachable and knowledgeable. Although it is a 3-hour weekend class, I wouldn’t want to miss his classes, as it is not often you will experience attending a class listening to and interacting with a former Deputy Minister for Multilateral and Global Affairs of MOFA ROK."

2. Policy Process Analysis / Professor: Angela Park

The students who have taken "Policy Process Analysis" commend the course for its excellent content and the valuable knowledge it imparts on policy formulation and evaluation. Their recommendation extends to policymakers, especially those new to the public policy field. 

Each class focuses on a different step in the policy process, allowing students to delve deep into the intricacies of policy development. Moreover, students are actively engaged through group case studies and briefing activities, where they apply their learning creatively.

3. Climate Change Economics and Policy / Professor: Yeong Jae Kim 

Another highly recommended course at KDI School is "Climate Change Economics and Policy", led by Professor Yeong Jae Kim. 

Students commend the course for its engaging approach to learning. With a focus on climate and environmental policy, Professor Kim employs interactive teaching methods, including simulation games, to broaden students' understanding of the subject matter. Through these activities, students not only grasp theoretical concepts but also gain practical insights into the complexities of climate change economics and policy.

4. Urban Transport Policy / Professor: Sang Keon Lee

Korea boasts one of the best transportation systems globally, and for students eager to explore its intricacies, "Urban Transport Policy" with Professor Sang Keon Lee is the ideal choice.

Professor Lee's practical approach and extensive experience provide students with unparalleled insights into transportation policy and management. 

“This is the course to take, the professor is very practical, and experienced, so you will get to learn from the best. There was a field trip in my term.”

5. Agriculture and Development / Professor: Joshua Merfeld 

Students recommend "Agriculture and Development" with Professor Joshua Merfeld for its accessibility to those without an economics background. The course delves into current events and global discourses surrounding agriculture, highlighting the importance of the field. 

A student notes, "The course is interactive and a perfect environment for discussion and learning. The course helped me put in context theories I had learned in AMPP and IDP." 

In addition to the courses highlighted above, courses such as "Korean Language and Culture I" provide essential Korean language skills and cultural insights, while “Academic Writing" helps improve writing skills, essential for academic success and effective communication in various contexts.
