Preliminary Session 2008 for MPP, MBA (Day) Students

Dear 2008 MPP and MBA (Day) Students,

We are pleased that you have chosen the KDI School of Public Policy and Management.
To help you prepare for the academic year, we will provide several kinds of preliminary courses during the Preliminary Session. Please refer to the following detailed information.

□ Preliminary Courses:

1. Methodological Foundations for Policy Analysis
- This course is for MPP students.

2. Accounting:
- If you have ever studied Accounting, you do not have to take this course.

3. English Courses:
- After the English Placement Test (Jan. 7), you can register for one of these courses.

4. Case Analysis
- All Daytime MBA Students should take this course.

5. IT Course:
- You can learn basic computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

1. Methodological Foundations for Policy Analysis (1.5 credits/ P or NP/No grade)
- This course is for MPP Students.

2 Accounting Course (1.5 credits): You will learn basic information about Accounting. If you have ever studied Accounting before, you don’t have to take this course.

3. English Course (4.5 credits): Based on an English Level Test, students will receive an English waiver or be placed into English courses levels I, II or III. English Level I and II courses will be counted for foundation skills courses that you have to take for graduation. For example, if you are level II and finish level II course in the preliminary session, you can take the level III course next semester. The English Level III course will be counted for graduation requirement credits.
All students who take these courses must attend at least five sixths (5/6) of all classes in a given term to receive credit for their course.

4. Case Analysis
D-MBA students will attend lectures on business case analysis. The Professor will give a lecture on “What is a Business Case Study” and “How to analyze Business Cases” for all Daytime MBA Students. Please participate in this useful course.

5. IT Course (No credit): Learning to use Microsoft Power Point, Excel, etc. This course offers students the opportunity to review basic computer skills such as MS-PowerPoint and MS-Excel.
The total course hours are 12 hours during the preliminary session (No credit).

? How to register for the courses:
①Please activate ’Internet Explorer’ and get into ’KDI School Website’ http://www.kdischool.ac.kr.
②Please click the “Course Registration (Preliminary Session).”
③Please input your ID number in the Login ID box.
④Please input your resident registration number in the Password box (13 digits, ex: 7512011738632). In case of international students, please input your date of birth (8 digits, yyyymmdd).
⑤Please click the ’OK’ button.
⑥Please check the Add box on the courses you want to register.
⑦If you are a MAM or MFDI student, please click the section 2 of course,“Accounting”
If you are an E-MBA student, please click the section 3 of course, “Accounting”
If you are an D-MBA student, please click the section 1 of course, “Accounting”

⑧When you check all the courses you want to enroll, please click the ’Submit’ button.

□ Preliminary Term Orientation & English Level Test

A. Distribution of Orientation Package & Tea Time: 8:15 - 8:30
B. Orientation for Winter Preliminary Session: 8:30 - 9:00
C. English Placement Test:
*Reading & Written Test: 9:00 ~ 10: 30 (Lincoln Hall)
*Oral Test: 10:30 - 12:15 (Each Classroom)

2. Afternoon Group

A. Distribution of Orientation Package & Tea Time: 13:15 - 13:30
B. Orientation for Winter Preliminary Session: 13:30 - 14:00
C. English Placement Test:
*Reading & Written Test: 14:00 ~ 15: 30 (Lincoln Hall)
*Oral Test: 15:30 - 17:30 (Each Classroom)

* Students who are unable to participate in the English Level Test or the Preliminary Session must let me know via e-mail (sylee@kdischool.ac.kr) as soon as possible. (We will continue to deliver notices to admitted students via e-mail. Please be sure to provide us with the e-mail address at which we can reach you from now until the beginning of the 2008 academic year.)
