Dear Korean Students and International Students,

The fall semester has begun and it is already Monday of the third week. We hope that everyone is doing a great job keeping up the good work at school so far.

As you all know, September 29 to Oct 1 is Chusok holidays (Chusok falls on August 15 by the lunar calendar). Similar to Thanksgiving, this is one of the most important holidays in Korea. Families come together to celebrate the harvest season, and hold memorial services at ancestors’ graves.

In the meantime we have some announcements to make regarding Chusok.

1.    The School will distribute small gifts for Chusok

The KDI School would like to offer Korean traditional food and drinks: Tteok (rice cake) and Sikhye (sweet rice drink) to celebrate this holiday together. For those living in the school dorm, please pick it up from your Dormitory assistant(DA), and for those NOT living in the school dormitory, please VISIT student affairs office and grab a taste of Korea from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Sep. 27th (Thur).

2.    Cafeteria information

During the holiday season, KAIST cafeteria (including Atrium) will be closed from Sep. 29th to Oct 1st. Since most of the restaurants near KDI School and Kyung-Hee University are closed during the holidays, particularly on Sep. 30th (the Chusok day), it is recommended that you shop for food in advance or go to downtown area for dining.

3.    No class (October 1st)

There would be no class Monday, October 1st. Please note, however, that this break is still a part of the official semester period; the school does not allow a temporary leave during the semester except when it''s urgent and unavoidable.
