[For Full-time students] 2014 Winter Preliminary Session Schedule & Course Registration

Dear Full-time students of 2014,

 

We are pleased that you have chosen the KDI School of Public Policy and Management for your graduate work. In order for us to help you prepare for the 2014 academic year successfully, we plan to provide you with basic level language courses during the winter preliminary session.

 

Participants: Korean Students newly admitted for 2014 Spring,

                         Int’l Students admitted in 2013 Fall, All NIIED Students

All courses except Korean courses will be offered for Korean Students newly admitted for 2014 Spring and Int’l students who can attend during winter session.

Korean courses will be offered in the winter semester for All NIIED Students and international students who was admitted in 2013 Fall.

 

Preliminary Winter Session Period: January 6(Mon) ~ January 29(Wed)

- For the Winter session class schedule, please refer to the attached file.

- Korean students who are not able to participate in the Preliminary Session have to let me know via e-mail(ec_lee@kdischool.ac.kr).

LPM section 6 to 8 will be offered during evening and Saturday for part-time students.

 

? Language in Public Policy and Management (LPM)

LPM course is a 3-credits mandatory course that counts for your graduation requirement. English test will be given at the first English class on Jan. 6(Mon). Based on their English test scores, students can be waived from the basic level course. However, getting a waiver does not mean that you can get 3 credits from the waived course. Those students who are unable to participate in the preliminary session have to take LPM course during the spring semester.

 

? English Speaking Skills

English Speaking Skills is a 3-credits optional course that does not count for graduation requirement. However, grade received from the course will affect your cumulative GPA.

 

? Korean Language and Culture: (Int’l students only)

Korean Language and Culture is a 3-credits optional course that does not count for graduation requirement. However, grade received from the course will affect your cumulative GPA. This course will be open for International students(including NIIED students).

 

? Korean Language and Culture(Intermediate): (Int’l students only)

Korean Language and Culture(Intermediate) is a 3-credits optional course that does not count for graduation requirement. However, grade received from the course will affect your cumulative GPA. This course will be open for International students(including NIIED students) who like to review Korean language before taking the Advanced course which will be offered in Spring, 2014.

 

? Basic Economics (1 Credit)

The Basic Economics is a 1-credits optional course that does not count for graduation requirement and grade(Pass/Non-Pass) will not affect your cumulative GPA.

 

? Basic Mathematics and Statistics (1 Credit)

The Basic Mathematics is a 1-credits optional course that does not count for graduation requirement and grade(Pass/Non-Pass) will not affect your cumulative GPA. Those who receive insufficient score from the mathematics test should take “Basic Mathematics and Statistics” class.

 

? Information Technology for Global Studies and Practice(Non-Credits)

The Basic Software Session is a non-credits optional class. It will introduce basic functions of MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

 

Tests

 

? Basic Math Test

- Purpose of the test is to evaluate basic knowledge of mathematics and statistics. The test consists of multiple choices and it will last for forty minutes. Those who receive insufficient score from the test should take “Basic Mathematics and Statistics” class in the Winter or Spring semester. You can find related reading materials in the school library website. Please refer to the attached file for the readings.

 

? English Test

- The English test, which will last for two hours, consists of three components: reading, listening and writing.


 

Course Registration Period: Dec 30(Mon) 10:00AM ~ Jan 2(Thu) 22:00PM

 

Course change is not possible after the registration period.

How to register for the courses(online registration):

- Please go to the "KDI School Website" http://www.kdischool.ac.kr.

- Please input your student ID number and password in the login box.

(Password will be same with one that you used for admission application)

- Please click “MIS”.

- Please click "Course Registration".

- Please click “Register” of the course you want register for.

- Please refer to the course registration manual before you register for courses.

 

□ Course Drop & Withdrawal Period Information

  

  ● Course Drop Period: Jan. 13(Mon) ~ Jan. 18(Sat) 

If you want to drop the course after the course registration period, you need to fill out the course drop application form and submit it to the Academic Affairs Division (Room.8215). In this case, the course drop will not appear on the official transcript.

            How to find the application form 

- Please go to the "KDI School Website" http://www.kdischool.ac.kr.

- Please input your student ID number and password in the login box.

(Password will be same with one that you used for admission application)

- Please click “Members”.

- Please click "Official Forms".

- Please click "Application for Course Drop and Withdrawal" form. 


 

●  Course Withdrawal Period: Jan. 20(Mon) ~ Jan. 25(Sat)

If you want to withdraw the course after course drop period, you need to fill out the course withdrawal application form and submit it to the Academic Affairs Division (Room.8215). In this case, a "W" will appear on the official transcript. However, it will not affect the GPA.

Attendance Policy

All students who take the Preliminary courses must attend at least five sixths (5/6) of all classes in a given term to receive credits and grades for their course. During the preliminary session 2 absences(1 absence for 1-credit-course) will be allowed. If you are absent 3 times(2 times for 1-credit-course) or more from your class, you will fail in the course. There is no course retaking chance in KDI School. When you are absent 3 times (2 times for 1-credit-course)or more, you have to drop or withdraw the course during the course drop or withdrawal period.
