[UNESCO ICM] African Women Martial Arts Leaders Workshop

The International Centre of Martial Arts for Youth Development and Engagement, under the auspices of UNESCO (ICM), is calling for applications for the African Women Martial Arts Leaders Workshop. The workshop aims to develop African female martial arts practitioners’ training capacities, encourage their career development, and establish female martial arts leaders networks.


Anyone under the qualifications is cordially invited to apply. However, please note that participating in this event is not the reason for applying for the Excused Absence on the upcoming Fall Semester.


 

 

Overview

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Programme: African Women Martial Arts Leaders Workshop 

Period: Sunday 5th November Friday 10th November, 2023 / 5 nights and 6 days

Location: Republic of Korea (Chungju and Seoul areas)

Participants: 20-25 female martial artists, born before 2005, African nationality

Language: English

Main Activities

Martial Arts Training (Learning Taekkyeon, Taekwondo, Karate and martial arts interaction)

Lectures (Gender education, violence prevention, martial arts gym management, first aid, etc.)

Group Activities (Drafting martial arts education plan based on workshop content, evaluation, etc.)

Cultural Experience (Visit to places relevant to traditional culture and martial arts)

 

Criteria

Number of Participants: 20~25

Eligibility

- Be of African nationality, female born before 2005

- Have experience as a martial arts instructor, practitioner, athlete, or in another relevant role

- Ability to communicate in English, available to attend the whole programme, interested and enthusiastic in martial arts education and career development

Benefits

Round trip airfare and accommodation provided (layover expenses not included), administrative support for travel permission such as visa application (fees to be covered individually)

Free participation, certificate of participation, cooperation opportunities for best team, souvenirs

 

How to Apply

Complete the application form on ICM’s webpage (www.unescoicm.org), notice board

Submit the completed form and a recommendation letter (optional) via email during the applying period

Email Title: “[Workshop Applicant] Your name

Ensure the application form is attached

Applying Period: Monday 24th July - Sunday 6th August, 2023 24:00 (KST)

 

Selection of Participants

Document screening

- Document screening will be conducted based on your application (martial arts experience, English proficiency, recommendation letter, etc.)

- Age, country, etc. may be considered during the selection process

Interview

- Overall evaluation (communication skills, candidate potential, suitability, etc.)

Notification on Selected Participants: Monday 14th August - Friday 18th August, 2023

Final participants will be notified via email or phone, those who do not reply or respond to the first notification in 48 hours may be considered not participating

 

Others

Personal expenses occurring out of the official event schedule will not be covered by ICM

Participants from Korea are expected to arrive and leave workshop venue individually (specific venue and time will be notified on a later date)

Participants are advised to apply for travel insurance from local agencies to ensure full reimbursement for accidental expesnes during their stay in Korea. ICM will not cover the expenses for those who do not have their own insurance

Arrival and departure time may differ per participant depending on flight schedules, etc.

Foreign participants’ transport to/from the airport on arrival/departure date will be supported
