KDI School, “A Golden Fishery” Jung, Woonki (2002 MBA, Korea) Deputy General Manager of Woori Bank, New York Agency Q1. When were you posted to the New York office and how is your life in Manhattan? I was appointed to the New York office on the 16th of February this year. Since then, here in Manhattan, I have been busy learning new work and picking up American culture by trial and error. Wow, I haven’t realized that it has already been 8 months since I came here.  Q2. What do you currently do at Woori Bank? Currently, I am in charge of coordinating and administrating all the internal controls such as Compliance, Credit Review, and Internal Audit. Q3. How is it different from the work you used to do in Korea? Before joining the New York office, I used to work at the International Banking Department of Head Office located in Seoul. My main job was coordinating all the marketing activities and serving as the primary contact point for all transaction related to international financial institutions. Q4. What made you come to the KDI School and take the MBA course? While I was in charge of the Banking Risk Management, our bank was recruiting those who prefer to study more in order to cultivate talented staff. By chance, I gained information on the KDI School and it triggered me to throw down the glove. That is how I decided to study for an MBA. So, I gave it a shot and I was luckily admitted, which is one more step to the ultimate goal of my life. Q5. Are the courses which you have learned at school applicable to your work? Actually, during my school days at the KDI School and Michigan University, I had been bent on doing homework and preparing for quizzes to get a higher GPA. Looking back, all the courses had been a great help for me and I still refer to some of the materials which I used at school. Furthermore, even after graduation, when I conducted international conferences, I was fully guided and encouraged by many of the professors and staff at the KDI School. There are too many people who helped me to name at the moment. Hereby, however, I would like to thank them all. Q6. Is there any advice you would like to give to the freshmen or those considering to study the MBA program at the KDI School? I had many chances to take courses in other schools in Korea and in the US. Among them were Hanyang University, Korea University, Sogang University, Seoul National University in Korea and Michigan State University in the US. However, I can surely say that the faculties at KDI School are so superlative that the school can compete not only with any school in Korea but also with the Top 10 universities in the U.S. On top of that, the talented students from various fields and countries are excellent networking resources that I keep a continuous relationship with even after graduation. To add one more, in 5 to 10 years, there will be an abundant number of leaders produced by the KDI School. Q7.  What word do you think best fills in the blank? KDI School is a golden fishery.
