Kith Pheara (MPP 2005) is a government official currently working in the Trade Promotion Department of Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia in the position of Deputy Chief of trade information and dissemination bureau.

- What do you do now?
I am a chief of Product Development Office of Trade Promotion Department of the Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia. I was promoted to this position recently. My temporary job in Japan is the attachment office from the Trade Promotion Department of Cambodia to the ASEAN-Japan Centre office in Tokyo.

- What attracted you to KDI School 2 years ago?
Well, turning back to the last 2 years before my admission to KDI, I always dreamed of getting higher education from foreign countries. At the time, Cambodia was tightening the diplomatic relations with Korea, with the exchange focusing largely on diplomacy, culture, trade and economy. Later, I obtained information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the scholarship to study in Korea. I immediately applied and contacted the KOICA Cambodia office, asking for relevant information about Korea.

- What was the most important thing you learned at the KDI School?
(i): Culture: Korea and Cambodia are both located in Asia but we are totally different. My roommate was Korean, and I could learn about Korean traditions and lifestyles.
(ii): Society: For a whole year of my life in KDI, I participated in relevant activities organized by the KDI school. I was exposed to many places in Seoul, Busan, Gyeongju, and Daegu. The most interesting place that I will never forget is DMZ.

- Does the knowledge that you learned at the KDI School match your current job?
Yes, my role in the ASEAN-Japan Centre or in Ministry of Commerce in Phnom Penh, is mostly relevant to the courses that I took at the KDI school such as International Economics and Economic Development.

- Do you have any advice for new students in KDI School?
The most important that I want to recommend is networking. Now you are a student but after one or two years you will be working in your respective fields again, and a wide network will defeinintely come in handy.

- How would you describe the KDI School?
The KDI school is the best choice for young leadership.
