[IE Lab Seminar] A cliometric study program to focus on Korea’s development experiences

Background


Established in 2011 as the first research lab in Korea committed to rigorous evaluation of the impact of development programs, Impact Evaluation Lab (IE Lab) at the KDI School of Public Policy and Management has been dedicated to carry out impact evaluation studies.


In 2015, as another module, the Lab launched a cliometric study* program to focus on Korea’s development experiences to conduct empirical studies on Korea’s development experiences and to revitalize quantitative studies on Korea’s economic history.


The researches covered :
(1) Land Reform and Agricultural Productivity in Korea (Duol KIM, Professor, Economics, Myeongji University)
(2) Changes in Anthropometric Measures of Wellbeing in Korea: Evidence from Military Records (Cheolhee LEE, Professor, Economics, Seoul National University)


As its own effort for providing a unique learning opportunity for KDI School students and for dissemination of empirical studies on Korea’s economic development history, the IE Lab will gladly hold a seminar.

Cliometrics sometimes called new economic history, or econometric history, is the systematic application of economic theory, econometric techniques, and other formal or mathematical methods to the study of history (especially, social and economic history). It is a quantitative approach to economic history
