Dear KDI School alum,

 

It is time again for the 2017 Alumni Essay Contest! The Contest, held annually, gives KDI School alumni to showcase their prowess in respective fields after their graduation from KDI School. The Contest also serves as a great source of pride and valuable information for the School, as it gives us an idea of how our alumni are applying and utilizing their education at KDI School to actual practice.

 

Winners of the Contest will be invited to the Ceremony for KDI School’s 20^th Anniversary and ‘Capacity Building Workshop (TBD)’, scheduled between October 29 and November 4, 2017.  Winners should plan their trips to include those five days. KDI School is planning to invite around 20 to 25 persons who ranked high in the competition including winners to the workshop. Details of the contest are as follows:

You may choose to write up on one of the following options:

 

[Option I - Essay] Your activities and achievements in your field of work after graduation

• How the education at KDI School was useful in your work
• Whether the education at KDI School helped you to gain employment at a new workplace, or receive promotion in your current workplace
• Cooperation programs or projects with institutions related to Korea
• Other activities that were beneficial to KDI School or KDI School Alumni Associations around the world

 

 

[Option II – Policy Memo] Your experience in policy implementation and its impact after graduation

• The entire process of policy related activities from problem definition, policy design, adoption and policy implementation followed by self-evaluation, analytical and/or problem-solving skills
• How the education at KDI School was applied and utilized in those policy related activities

 

We would greatly appreciate it if you could make it as detailed as possible, and please submit it in the format suggested in the application form (MS word, double-spaced, using standard fonts in 12-point type).

  Please email the application form and your essay to alumni@kdis.ac.kr by September 10, 2017 (Korea Standard Time).

   

• Prizes

- 1^st place (1 person), 2^nd place (2 persons), 3^rd place (3 persons)

 

Roundtrip airfare to Korea from WHERE YOU CURRENTLY RESIDE plus a workshop participation fee (If you cannot travel to Korea, we award cash prizes as below)

 

-1^st place (1 person): KRW 300,000

-2^nd place (2 persons): KRW 200,000 each

-3^rd place (3 persons): KRW 100,000 each

 

[Important Notes]

1. Cash prizes are awarded to those who are unable to travel to Korea.
2. All selected participants who can travel to Korea are obligated to attend a one-week workshop at KDI School. Workshop details are forthcoming.
3. Previous winners are eligible to participate, provided they have made significant achievements since the composition of their previous essays and that their essays sufficiently differ from their previous entries so as to be original.

 

We urge our alumni to take part in this year’s Contest to help the School follow the activities of our alumni members upon graduation, and to present a variety of success stories to current students to help instill pride for being part of KDI School.
