Digital Governance is an integral part of Global Governance

On Friday, 13^th April, The International Relations Forum (IRF) of KDI School of Public Policy and Management held its second Seminar on “Future Trends of Digital Government Development”. The invited speaker was a prominent expert from the UN Project office on Good Governance, Dr. Keping YAO.

Opening the Seminar, the speaker discussed for a while about the connection of Digital Governance and International Affairs.In his Presentation, the Speaker discussed on various issues such as UN 2030 Agenda, Global Trends of Digital Governance, Evaluation measure for Digital Governance, Governments and Digital governance challenges and finally, the importance of open government and effective data management by the government. In this section, Dr. YAO specifically focused on the need for governments to share data to the public, adopt comprehensive strategies for data protection and management and civil society engagement for conducting nation-wide digital governance awareness campaigns.

Dr. Kepling YAO’s presentation followed by questions and answers, for instance students asked about what strategies for expanding ICT infrastructure, how to improve human capital in ICT and what specific strategies governments should implement to protect personal and public data. Dr. YAO responded them by providing specific examples from several countries but asserted that it depends to different countries’ contexts. He concluded the session by advising students to study more sources on digital governance so that they will be able to use International best practices if they are asked to engage in strategic planning for good governance in general and Digital Governance in particular.
