KIWA Club Activities Report
KDIS International Women Alliance during the Spring Semester carried out the Lectures Series under the theme "Stepping into the Leadership Zone", the lecture series provided a rich platform for international students to exchange ideas and strategies on how to address the multi-faceted challenges that are faced by young women every day.
Lecture Series 1
Title:Women Empowerment- Giving Women A Voice
Guest Speaker: Professor Lisa Lim
This was the first lecture series given by KIWA and our patron Prof. Lisa Lim gave us an inspiring presentation on the different interventions that have been carried out globally to build the capacity of young women and promote their active participation in leadership roles and decision making. The take-home message was that every woman has a responsibility to play in the development of their communities.
Lecture Series 2
Title: Millennium Development Goals Maternal and Child Health
Prof. Kaja Abbas
This was a valuable academic presentation by the visiting Prof. K Abbas and he emphasized the importance of health in the development of communities and how women and children are the most vulnerable and affected by a gap in the health system of a country. In his presentation he touched on HIV/AIDS, Ebola, Tubercolosis and the devastating role it has on the human capital of a country. In the light of the poor performance of the Millennium Development Goals on Health he proposed a model that can be used to improve the health policies of developing nations
Lecture Series 3
Title: Development: Whose Leadership Matters
Prof. Hyekong Kim
This was an immensely humbling experience shared by the Prof describing her journey from her academic studies to the great leader that she has become today. The meeting was very valuable because it raised the characteristics that are required from a leader, that are not only limited to authority but also include respect, humility, innovation, self-starting and voluntary activities. The participants were truly inspired.
Also in support to the Nepal Disaster KIWA collected donations in kind under the theme "A Giving Hand to Nepal: Donations in Kind". This was a collectively action by the KDIS Community ".
Overally KIWA would like to thank the KDIS support for its valuable support and commitment to the plight of women globally. Please if you have any suggestions on how we can improve on our activities or sectors that we can cover send an email to langa2009@gmail.com.
Kind Regards,
