Dear Internatioal and Korean Students,

The fall semester has begun and it is already the third week. We hope that everyone is doing a great job keeping up the good work at school so far.

As you all know, September 26 to September 29 is Chusok holidays (Chusok falls on August 15 by the lunar calendar). Similar to Thanksgiving, this is one of the most important holidays in Korea. Families come together to celebrate the harvest season, and hold memorial services at ancestors’ graves.

In the meantime we have some announcements to make regarding Chusok.

1. The School will distribute small gifts for Chusok

The KDI School would like to offer Korean traditional food and drinks: Tteok (rice cake) and Sikhye (sweet rice drink) for dormitory residents to celebrate this holiday together. Please pick it up from House Master(dormitory Bld. 102, Information Desk), after Sep 25th 4:30 PM.

           2. Dormitory Residents Gathering

There would be some events organized by dormitory community for on-campus residents particularly internatinal students during Chusok holiday. You may have information from Chief DA Mr. Yong-jin Lee and other DAs. We hope you will have a chance to experience Korean culture and mingle with one another.

3. Cafeteria information

During the holiday season, cafeteria and GS25 on campus will be closed on Sep. 27th. Since most of the restaurants are closed during the holidays, particularly on the Chusok day, it is recommended that you shop for food in advance or go to downtown area for dining. (Home plus and e-Mart will be closed on Sep. 27th also.

4. No class (Sep 26 ~ Oct 3)

There would be no class durging holiday week(sep 26 ~ Oct 3). Please note, however, that this break is still a part of the official semester period; the school does not allow a temporary leave to overseas during the semester except when it's urgent and unavoidable.

We hope all of you will enjoy Chusok holiday in Korea. Thank you.
