Dear Korean Students and International Students,

The spring semester has finally begun. We hope everyone is eager and ready to begin their studies.

As you all know, from February 7 to 10 is ‘Seollal’ (설날, Lunar New Year’s Day). This is one of the most important traditional holidays in Korea. As families do for the Solar New Year’s Day on January 1, families also come together to celebrate the Lunar New Year’s Day to wish each other a happy new year, and have memorial services for their ancestors.

In the meantime, we have some announcements to make regarding the Lunar New Year’s Day & the holiday week.

1. Shops & Restaurants information

On campus:

Cafeteria and GS25 will be closed on February 8 and breakfast will not be provided during the holiday period. Vobiscum and Mangosix will remain closed during the entire holiday season. (You can see this information in the students notice board in KDIS homepage also).

Off campus:

Homeplus and E-mart will open during the Lunar New Year’s holiday period (please note that these supermarkets will be closed on February 11). However, most shops and restaurants will be closed. We recommend you to shop for groceries in advance.

2.    No class (Until February 12th)

There would be no classes from February 11 (Thu) to 12 (Fri). Please note, however, that this break is still a part of the official semester period; the School does not allow any form of temporary leave during the semester except in unavoidable emergencies.

3. Dormitory gathering

To celebrate Lunar New Year’s Day with all of your fellow students in the dormitory, KDI School will support a casual gathering, and your DAs may organize this event. Details will be announced by the DAs. If you’re in your dormitory during the holidays, please join and celebrate.

4. Travel Information if you’d like to celebrate Seollal

For those of you who wish to try Korean traditional games, food and customs specific to Seollal, there will be some events to celebrate the Lunar New Year near Sejong city (e.g. Daejeon Expo Plaza, Buyeo National Museum). For further information, please visit the websites in the table below.
