[KDI Healthcare Room: Health Information for June, 2019]

Hello!

Today I'd like to share some information regarding 'Tyrenol', one of the most popular OTC medications for headache and menstrual pain.

Is Women's Tylenol a different medication from Tylenol?

Tylenol 500 mg

Women's Tylenol

  Ingredients

 -  Acetaminophen 500 mg

 -  Acetaminophen 500 mg

 -  Pamabrom 25 mg

As you can see in this chart, pamabrom is added to Tylenol 500 mg. Pamabrom is a diuretic, known as a water pill, because it removes water and salt out of your body by increasing urination

Why does the medication for menstrual pain have a diuretic?

A diuretic is added to Tylenol in order to relieve the swelling of the body or breast congestion before and after the period.

If you don't have any swelling symptoms during your menstruation period, you can take Tylenol 500 mg instead of Women's Tylenol because both of them contain the same amount of acetaminophen, the pain relief medication.

Another popular drug for menstrual pain relief is ibuprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug.

  이지엔6애니 (Korean Brand)

  이지앤6이브 (Korean Brand)

  Ingredients

  -  Ibuprofen 200 mg

  -  Ibuprofen 200 mg

  -  Pamabrom 25 mg

Just like Women's Tylenol, pamabrom is added to ibuprofen with a different brand name. By changing the brand name with an additional medication, it can make customers to believe that it works specifically for menstrual pain. However, both of them have ibuprofen as their active ingredients.

In the Korean medicine, a good blood circulation in the body is critical to stay healthy. Having a cold body temperature such as cold limbs or poor circulation actually worsen the menstrual pain. If you experience a severe menstrual pain, it indicates your blood circulation to the uterus may not be good. Therefore, it is very important for you to keep your body warm and improve the blood circulation. Regular exercise, eat a health diet, foot spa, drinking ginger tea are good ways to improve your body circulation..

I hope this information helps you for a better understanding of some of the OTC drugs available in the pharmacy. If you have any questions about menstrual pain, please visit the Healthcare Room.

Thank you.
