The Korean government has stepped up quarantine measures in border areas including airports and ports to prevent the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF), a deadly contagious disease, beginning from June 1, 2019.

Failing to report carrying animal products could result in fines up to 10 million KRW. If you don’t pay the fine, you may not receive a permission to re-enter the country or face an enhanced screening process in order to stay in Korea.

Please check the items subject to quarantine (restricted items) on the attached documents.

Thank you.

[ African Swine Fever (ASF) ]

African swine fever (ASF) is a highly contagious haemorrhagic viral disease of domestic and wild pigs, which is responsible for serious economic and production losses.

ASF is a disease listed in the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) Terrestrial Animal Health Code and must be reported to the OIE.

ASF is not a risk to human health.

Since currently there is no approved vaccine for ASF, the best way to prevent ASF is to ensure that neither infected live pigs nor pork products are introduced into areas free of ASF.
