Dear International Students,

 

As you are already aware, the Korean government has called for a 14 day self-quarantine on those entering the country from overseas. Therefore, students from temporary leave also must be kept in self-quarantine for 14 days from the date of entry to Korea (Please find the attached files for the details). Since the government pledged to take stern measures against those who break the quarantine, some foreigners have been deported and some Koreans were charged with a crime, which they may face up to one year in prison or a fine of up to 10 million won.

 

KDI School strongly advises against taking a temporary leave during the spring break from May 4 to May 10 for the following reasons;

First, we do not have enough number of rooms in the dormitory to isolate students after a temporary leave.
Second, you will be absent from classes as per your obligation to self-quarantine for 14 days. Even though you're joining online classes, you may have some trouble keeping up with your classes.
Third, with uncertainty around the pandemic we cannot guarantee your return flight to Korea. The country or city you of departure might be blocked when you want to return to Korea.

 

Despite these reasons, if you are willing to take a temporary leave with an avoidable reason, you should consult with the Student Affairs Division one week before the expected date of departure. The office considers it necessary of your purpose and will inform you of the result. You may take a temporary leave only after you receive approval from the school following the appropriate process regarding the 'Guideline for Temporary Leave Request'. Although you take a temporary leave, you should bear full responsibility for any results caused by taking a temporary leave.

Please be informed that anyone who takes an unapproved temporary leave will be placed on suspension from any scholarship benefits.
