English Requirement와 관련된 내용입니다.
If an applicant’s English scores fall into the provisional range, they would be required to take an English exam through the University when they arrive on campus. If they pass the exam, they can move directly into their policy coursework. If they do not pass the exam, they must then take an English training course alongside their policy coursework. (If their scores fall below a certain level on the exam, it is possible that they will have to take an English course first ? and then only be permitted to start their policy coursework upon successful completion of this course.)
Please note: An applicant can be admitted to the University even if they do not meet the English requirements. They would just be subject to the English exam upon arrival ? and the English courses if they do not pass the English exam. (It appears that the student’s scores that you have sent would fall into this range ? due to the 5.5 on the Written score. This doesn’t disqualify the student from admission, but this student would be required to take the English exam upon arrival ? and, if the student did not pass, could be subject to further English coursework.)
The cost of this special English language course is approximately $500 (based on our most recent MOU with KDI). Students unaffiliated with KDI pay significantly more.
We certainly do offer students the possibility to transfer in up to two courses from KDI. The courses must be similar to the program courses (and I’ve attached a list to this e-mail). Courses are considered on a case-by-case basis. Below are some general (though not all-inclusive) rules to keep in mind:
· A student must earn a “B” or better in the course they wish to have transferred.
· The course must have been taken within the last five years.
· The course must have been completed at an accredited University (such as KDI!)
· The course cannot have been used towards a degree that has been already earned.
We are very excited about the new weekend format of the program which is starting this Fall ? and we believe that this will allow our students plenty of time during the week to study and explore opportunities within the policy community of Washington, DC. We have been delighted with the response to this program ? and definitely invite your students to learn more about it at http://www.publicpolicy.umd.edu/degree-programs/executive-master-of-public-management

Please note you can apply to the University even if your English proficiency scores do not meet the minimum requirements. If you are admitted to the University, it will be with a provision that you will take an English proficiency exam during orientation. Based on the results of the exam at orientation, it is very likely that you will be required to take further English courses, perhaps even full-time English in the first semester that you enroll.
Exempt from submitting English proficiency scores:
? Students who have received a degree from an institution in the U.S. do not need to submit an English proficiency exam.
? Students from the United Kingdom, English speaking Africa, Canada and the Caribbean, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand are not required to take an English proficiency exam.
? The School of Music requires all non-native English-speaking students (including students with prior United States degrees) to submit English proficiency results.
? The School of Communication requires all non-native English-speaking students (including students with prior United States degrees) to submit English proficiency results.
Please note that transfer credit for an English composition course does not waive the English proficiency exam.
