What is the role of U.N. Special Rapporteur for North Korea's Human Rights?

This unique position established in 2004, had been a great asset to study the human rights state in North Korea and report the findings to the U.N. Human Rights Council anf General Assembly. This role is important because it serves to bridge the connection between North Korea and the UN while also keeping South Korea abreast.

Who is Salmon?

Salmon has already contributed to the Human Rights sector in her home country of peru as director of the Insitute for Democracy and Human Rights of th Pontifical Catholic University of peru. she was also a Professor of International Law at the Faculty of Law of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.

Mrs. Salmon and Korea

South Korea has already welcomed this applintment in a statement made by a spokesperson for the ministry of forign affairs. Remarking that South Korea is looking forward to working side by side with Ms. salmon and to rely on her expertise and experience. South Korea is expecting that Ms.Salmon expends on thr work of the UN Commission of Inquiry and prioritizes accountability; ensuring that North Korea is brought back to the UN and the international community;s agenda in a much more prominent way. Of course South Korea will continue to wrok on improving the human rights condition in North Korea while collaborating with Ms. Salmon.
