Brief intro of project
Gender Equality in the Lens of Women in STEM in Higher Education: Status of Bangladesh and Policy Forward - Brief intro of project Title Gender Equality in the Lens of Women in STEM in Higher Education: Status of Bangladesh and Policy Forward Sustainable Development Goals 5. Gender Equality Timely Global Issues 5. Exchange of Knowledge and Culture Gender and Equality Summary of your project Today's world has taken gender equality as one of the most serious issues. Hence, the United Nations and its member states have adopted Gender Equality (Goal 5) as one of the goals of SDGs. Most of the developing states failed to ensure women's and girls' participation in science, technology, engineering, and technology (STEM) related fields of study. However, the participation of women in STEM in the context of higher education is worse than lower levels of education. In addition, Bangladesh is one of the countries which scores one of lowest in ensuring women's participation in STEM in higher education. In this circumstance, this project aims to evaluate the status of women participation in STEM related subjects in the higher educational institutes (HEIs) of Bangladesh. This project will use historical quantitative data on higher education from the reports of University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh in order to track and evaluate the current status. Then, qualitative in-depth interviews will be conducted with the university professors and students of HEIs in order to develop policy forward for ensuring women's participation in STEM higher education in Bangladesh. Other developing nations having similar socio-economic status may use the policy guidelines for facing the challenge of ensuring women's participation in STEM higher education. -
